A native of Athens, Ga.,
Ryan Huff is working toward a master's degree as a senior defensive back on the App State football team. He recently finished work on his undergraduate degree in communications, public relations in Boone.
For our Student-Athlete Spotlights series, let's get to know Ryan a little better:
Q: Since you earned your undergrad degree, what has been the next step academically with you coming back for a 'super senior' season?
A: "I am currently pursuing a master's degree in higher education, university leadership."
Q: Why was earning a college degree important to you and your family?
A: "I am a first-generation college student on my father's side of the family. Because I was the first person to earn a college degree, it meant a lot to me to be able to break that barrier."
Q: What would you like to do professionally (after your sports career is over), and how has App State/your major contributed to that path?
A: "Once I am done playing for App State, I want to become a director of student-athlete development. App has given me many professional resources to help me obtain that goal."
Q: Who have your biggest mentors on campus been?
A: "My biggest mentors on campus have been Pierre Banks,
Jonathan Reeder, A.J. Howard and Doug Middleton."
Q: What are some of your fondest memories from your time at App State?
A: "Earning my degree is so far my fondest memory, as well as earning my first starting assignment against Coastal Carolina."
Q: What convinced you that App State was the right place for you?
A: "Seeing the culture that made up App State convinced me that App was the right place."
Q: Where would you go on your dream vacation?
A: "Puerto Rico!"
Q: What is your favorite sport to watch (besides your own)?
A: "I really enjoy watching basketball and track."
