NEW ORLEANS - Peighton Simmons earned Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this indoor track season on Thursday.
Simmons is the only repeat winner of such honors this indoor season. This past weekend at the Marshall Invitational, Simmons won both the long jump and triple jump events for the second instance this season, helping propel App State to a meet victory.
In December, Simmons swept both the long jump and triple jump crowns at the App State Invite. As for the Marshall Invitational, Simmons took the gold at 19-05.25 in long jump and 42-11.75 in triple jump.
Despite not topping her season-best and conference-leading marks in either event at the Marshall Invitational, a 19-05.25 would place her fifth in the Sun Belt for long jump. A 42-11.75 would rank second in the Sun Belt, just behind her first-place mark and Holmes Center record of 43-00.25.
Simmons currently ranks No. 21 in the country in triple jump and leads a nationally-ranked triple jump event squad (No. 6) into the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Feb. 21-22.
