Student-Athlete Spotlights: Jordon Earle

A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jordon Earle is a senior defensive lineman on the App State football team. He is majoring in communication/marketing and minoring in sociology.

For our Student-Athlete Spotlights series, let's get to know Jordon a little better:

Q: Your mom worked hard to go back to school and earn a college degree in education. What's it mean to you and your family that you're at a four-year university pursuing a degree while playing for a highly successful FBS football program?

A: Education means a lot, and that's a priority for my mom. That's my mom's main goal. Yes, we love football, but the main goal is grades, and I can say grades are the reason why I'm here now playing the sport that I love and making the sacrifices I make.

Q: What type of sacrifices are involved?

A: The places and environments you hang around in, the extra work you put in, the tutoring, the studying. The things that are required for you to get to a level like this, it's about small things. That's just what it takes to be better.

Q: What made you interested in advertising?

A: Advertising is around us everywhere we look, with the technology we have today, on TV, on computers, in video games. That's something I've always wanted to learn and develop how companies can be successful, like how they advertise their branding and what they promote and how they keep going. Those companies don't settle for less. As much as Apple is a billion dollar corporation, it's always something new where you keep the competition and other companies on their toes.

Q: When you are finished playing football, what's a career path that would interest you?

A: That's a good question, but I'd like to have my own brand, my own business, to help uplift the community where I came from.

Q: Coming from south Florida, what was the adjustment to Boone like for you? And what are your favorite things about a place that's a lot different from where you grew up?

A: Obviously, the weather. It is completely different, but Boone will always have a spot in my heart because of things I'm aware of now, me being a man compared to if I would have stayed down in south Florida and went to school where I feel like I probably would have been distracted more. When you get to a different environment, you adjust to different things, like the mountains. The High Country wasn't something I was used to, but it's something I really love.

Q: Outside of football and academic work, what are some things you like to do for fun?

A: I like to draw. I like to fish. I like to play video games, like Need for Speed or Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto.

Q: What are you watching on TV now?

A: Hands down, right now, the action show I'm watching is Yellowstone. It is gooood. Yellowstone is gooood.
