BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team (2-5) is set to host Johnson C. Smith (4-3) at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Holmes Convocation Center for its Community Appreciation game. Fans can get

Janay Sanders scored the second-most points for App State, netting 11.
App State ranks third in the Sun Belt for 3-pointers made, averaging 7.1 per game. Sanders, App State's top scorer, checks in at sixth in the league for scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game, as well as 10th for her free throw percentage. Sanders has been the Mountaineers' leading scorer in three of seven games this season.
Saturday's game will mark the first meeting between the Mountaineers and Golden Bulls.
Scouting Johnson C. Smith
Johnson C. Smith is 4-3 (0-0 CIAA) this season. The Golden Bulls are on a four-game win-streak after defeating Bluefield State (Nov. 26 and Dec. 4), Paine College (Nov. 28), and University of Fort Lauderdale (Nov. 30).
Shaniya Jones is the Golden Bulls' top scorer, averaging 22.4 points per game. India Howard leads the team in rebounds (averaging 12.3 per game) and has a free throw percentage of .658.
Last season, Johnson C. Smith went 15-10 (10-6 CIAA). In the CIAA Tournament, the No. 4 seed and Southern Division champion Golden Bulls fell to No. 12 seed Livingstone, 50-48, in the quarterfinals. During the regular season, JCSU posted seven consecutive wins from Jan. 15 to Feb. 2.

App State will close out non-conference action on Dec. 20, as it hosts Gardner-Webb at the Holmes Convocation Center. It will also be the Mountaineers' ugly sweater game, which will feature an appearance from Santa.
