Peighton Simmons Named Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Peighton Simmons was named Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday for her recording-breaking performance at the App State Invite.

At the App State Invite, Simmons broke the Holmes Center record with a triple jump mark of 43-00.25, cruising to a first-place victory in the event.

The High Point, North Carolina, native broke the Holmes Center's record by nearly three feet. The previous record was 40-6.25, which was held by Ronda White since 2006.

Currently, Simmons' indoor triple jump mark ranks first in the Sun Belt and eighth in the nation this season. Simmons' record also marked the second-longest indoor triple jump in program history.

She took the gold in the long jump event as well by posting a personal record of 6.06 meters. Simmons' indoor long jump mark also ranks first in the conference this season.
