App State Baseball to Play at Hickory Crawdads' Stadium

BOONE, N.C. - App State Baseball's March 29 contest versus UNC Asheville will now be played at L. P. Frans Stadium, home of the Hickory Crawdads. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now for the game on the Crawdads' website. Tickets are $9 in advance and $10 on the day of the game. App State students, faculty and alumni can get $6 tickets by using the code APPSTATE.

The relocation of the home midweek contest follows the university's recent purchase of 15.7 acres of land in the greater Hickory area to establish the App State Hickory Campus.

"We are truly excited to have the opportunity to play in Hickory," head coach Kermit Smith said. "Hickory has a great baseball culture, and the Crawdads' facility will give our players a great experience. We hope this relationship can grow in the coming years with App State's expanded footprint in the Hickory market."

The Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Metro was tabbed as the largest metropolitan area in North Carolina without a state institution, until now.

App State is also planning men's golf and women's tennis events in the Hickory area this spring.

With the Crawdads on the table, the Mountaineers' baseball program is now scheduled to compete in minor league venues three separate times in 2022.

On March 1, the Black and Gold will battle South Carolina at Truist Stadium, home of the Charlotte Knights. App State will return to Truist on March 11 to take on Charlotte and then close out the month of March at L. P. Frans Stadium against UNC Asheville. That game will be App State's first visit to the Frans since February 2016 when the Mountaineers played Quinnipiac.
