BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer dropped to Georgia State in a hard-fought battle, as it fell 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The first half of the match was tightly contested with no score, as possession was even between the two teams. The Mountaineers battled until the final minute of the contest, and created plenty of scoring opportunities, as it tallied nine shots with two being on goal.
"All in all, I'm proud of how the girls played, 18 to 18, and the chances that they created. Now it's time to fix some of those mistakes and get back to our clean sheets," said head coach Sarah Strickland.
The Mountaineers looked to pull ahead in the second half, with a pair of shots on goal by Sarah Widderich and Carly Lantz, but both were saved by GSU.
In the 76th minute of the contest, Georgia State scored its lone goal of the contest for the victory.
Kerry Eagleston suffered the loss in goal, allowing one goal and recording two saves.
The Mountaineers return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. when it hosts South Alabama at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. The home match will be streamed on ESPN+.
