App State Announces Men’s Basketball Radio Broadcaster

BOONE, N.C. – There will be a new voice of the Mountaineers' reigning Sun Belt Tournament Champion men's basketball team in 2021-22.

Matt Present has been hired to call App State games on the radio this year for the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield.

Present has a wide variety of play-by-play experience. In addition to announcing a handful of ESPN+ broadcasts for App State baseball and women's basketball last year, he recently completed his first season as a broadcaster for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the MLB's Miami Marlins. He also has served as a studio host for Arizona football and basketball for Learfield. Present has held other broadcast positions with Davidson football, the Down East Wood Ducks, the Lynchburg Hillcats, the York Revolution and NBC Sports Washington.

"I am thrilled to be joining the App State family, and couldn't be more excited for the season ahead," said Present. "It's been incredible to see Dustin Kerns take this program to new heights over the last two seasons, and I look forward to telling the story of the next chapter to Mountaineer fans across the country."

Present replaces Harrison Battle, who served as App State's men's basketball radio announcer for the previous five seasons before taking a new position in Georgia.

The Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield will broadcast every App State men's basketball game during the 2021-22 season and can be heard on the flagship radio station for App State Athletics — WKBC 97.3 FM in Wilkesboro, Hickory, Charlotte and the High Country – as well as WATA 1450 AM/96.5 FM in Boone. This year, Learfield audio streams will be available for free on The Varsity Network app and at appstatesports.com or by subscription on TuneIn.
