BOONE, N.C. — App State Football has six first-team picks and 17 overall selections on the preseason All-Sun teams from PFF College, which evaluates players with film-based grades.
The Mountaineers' first-team preseason selections are
Camerun Peoples (running back),
Cooper Hodges (offensive tackle),
Baer Hunter (interior offensive lineman),
Demetrius Taylor (edge defender),
Brendan Harrington (linebacker) and
Xavier Subotsch (punter).
The second team includes
Nick Hampton (edge defender),
D'Marco Jackson (linebacker),
Shaun Jolly (flex defender) and
Steven Jones Jr. (kickoff returner). Jones is included on the third team at cornerback and is joined in that grouping by
Thomas Hennigan (wide receiver) and
Henry Pearson (tight end).
The honorable mention picks include
Kaiden Smith (safety),
Anderson Hardy (offensive tackle) and
Malik Williams (at receiver and punt returner).
In addition to standouts such as Peoples and Taylor, PFF College has given extremely positive evaluations of players such as Harrington (naming him the fifth-most valuable FBS defender in 2020 based on its Wins Above Average metric), Hunter (declaring that he's allowed multiple pressures in only three of his 39 total games since 2018) and Hodges (determining he tied for the third-lowest pressure rate allowed among FBS offensive tackles in 2020 while also saying he posted the second-most big-time blocks on zone runs among all FBS tackles in 2020). Subotsch, meanwhile, had a net punting average of 40.3 yards that led full-time Sun Belt starters in 2020.
