NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Three members of the App State track & field program were named All-Sun Belt, the league announced on Wednesday.
Peighton Simmons earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors, while
Maya Hanks and
Nathan Karl were named Third Team All-Sun Belt.
Simmons won the triple jump on Saturday at the Sun Belt Championships, with a PR mark of 42-1.25 (12.83m) on her second leap of the day. Simmons is the first Mountaineer to win the outdoor triple jump since Jamie Glenn in 2013. In addition, she is the first Mountaineer to sweep both the indoor and outdoor triple jump in the same season since 2010, when Danielle Thorpe achieved the feat. Her mark also ranks fourth in the event in program history.
Hanks earned all-conference honors for her efforts in the triple jump, where she placed third with a mark of 41-3.75 (12.59m). It marks the first All-Sun Belt honor of her career.
Karl placed third in the shot put for his first all-conference honor of his career. He bettered his PR on three different throws in the event and covered 53-3.00 (16.23m) for his third-place finish.
App State will send competitors to the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 26 to May 29. The full field will be announced by the NCAA on Thursday.
