BOONE, N.C. – The App State softball team is set to take on UNC Greensboro on Wednesday in midweek action prior to returning to Sun Belt play this weekend. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. against the Spartans.

North Carolina Executive Order No. 195, which went into effect Friday, Feb. 26, permits up to 30 percent capacity for outdoor athletic venues and up to 15 percent for indoor athletic venues. Due to space limitations and required social distancing in the stands at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium, only family members of student-athletes, coaches and staff (56 total) can attend games at this time. No walk-up guests will be admitted.
Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch for those on the pass list. Parking can be found at the Stadium Deck, Champions Lot and Top of the Rock. No concessions will be available.
At all App State venues, six feet of social distancing between seating pods is required, and face coverings are required for all guests and game day staff. All fans must remain at least 15 feet from the dugouts and bullpen areas.
About the Mountaineers
App State took two from Radford on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 5-2 and coming from behind to take the second game 3-1. With the wins, the Mountaineers moved to 16-10 on the season, while Radford fell to 12-18.
Sidney Russell was a big part of App State's two-win weekend, posting a .500 average at the plate with two hits and three RBIs, as well as a .667 on base percentage and a 1.250 slugging percentage. The 5th year senior was clutch in the second game against Radford, hitting the go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 3-1 victory. Russell was also a key member of the Mountaineer defense at second base that turned four double plays on the weekend.
Sydney Holland completed the doubleheader sweep of Radford in the circle for the Mountaineers, throwing the complete game win the second game. She gave up only three hits and one run, striking out one Highlander on the day. She now has 20 strikeouts on the year and has only given up 27 earned runs.
Double Play Machine
The Mountaineers continue to put up impressive double play numbers, tallying three in the first game against Radford, matching the season-high they had against Texas State. App State has now turned 18 double plays on the season, compared to only four by its opponents. The Mountaineers continue to lead the conference in double plays turned per game with a 0.69, ranking them third in the nation.
Scouting UNCG
Last time out against the Spartans, the Mountaineers took two games out of three in the series. App State took the first two games 9-5 and 7-5, respectively, and UNCG took the final game of the series 9-5. The Spartans currently sit at 17-10 on the season, most recently dropping two games out of three to Furman in a SoCon series. Maycin Brown currently leads the Spartans on the offensive front, hitting .411 with 23 hits, five doubles and five home runs. In the circle, Morgan Scott is 8-4, posting a 2.66 ERA with 106 strikeouts. She has given up 30 earned runs on the year.
