Baseball Welcomes Wolfpack To Boone for First Time

BOONE, N.C. — For the sixth consecutive Tuesday, App State faces either an ACC program or a program that's currently nationally ranked, as NC State makes its first-ever visit to Boone.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+. As of Monday night, an extremely limited number of ticket options remained available, and more information can be obtained by emailing probstef@appstate.edu.

When the Mountaineers (15-20, 6-6 Sun Belt) and Wolfpack (19-13, 12-12 ACC) played in Raleigh on April 6, it was the first meeting between the programs since 2015, and NC State won 13-2. App State trailed 3-1 before the Wolfpack hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and added nine runs in the sixth inning.

In the previous five weeks, App State also played Wake Forest twice and No. 15 Charlotte twice.

Tuesday's probable starting pitcher for App State is right-hander Trey Tujetsch (TOO-ish). After appearing in four games last season at South Carolina, he has pitched well to start home midweek games against Wake Forest and Charlotte the previous two Tuesdays.

He struck out six batters in 4.1 innings against Wake Forest, retiring 11 of the 15 batters he faced through four innings, then took a 6-3 lead into the seventh inning against Charlotte. Tujetsch held the 49ers scoreless in five of the first six innings and totaled seven strikeouts.

Probables

Offensively, first baseman Robbie Young is batting a team-leading .301 this season following a 4-for-6 doubleheader with three RBIs Sunday, He has started in 101 of App State's 105 games in the last three years.

Bailey Welch, whose quick-reaction double play off a ricochet at Lipscomb was named D1Baseball's top defensive play of Week 9, is batting .287 overall and a league-best .500 in Sun Belt Conference play.

In injury news, third baseman Andrew Greckel returned to the starting lineup for the first time Sunday after suffering an arm injury on March 19. In the 21 games between those dates, he appeared in one game as a pinch-runner on April 16.
