CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- App State men's track & field will compete at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday and Saturday in the final meet before the Sun Belt Championships. Friday's events begin at 3 p.m. and Saturday's events start at 11 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
App State competed at a pair of meets last weekend, sending two distance runners to the Virginia Challenge and the rest of the team to the USC Open.
- At the Virginia Challenge, Isaac Benz broke a 37-year school record in the 10,000-meter run, crossing in 29:39.31. His time bettered the previous school record of 29:52.1 set by Carlton Law in 1984. His mark now sits as the third fastest time in the Sun Belt this season in the 10,000-meter run. Ryan Brown bettered his PR time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by nine seconds, crossing in 8:54.76. His time now places him third in the event in program history and is the second fastest time in the Sun Belt this season.
- At the USC Open, Eric Haddock Jr. won the triple jump with a mark of 50-5.50 (15.38m). His distance was eight inches farther than the next competitor and sits eighth in the event in program history. Haddock Jr. also notched a fifth-place finish in the long jump, covering 22-6.25 (6.86m) with his second jump of the day.
- Ben Cignarale opened the day with a victory in 8:42.90 in the 3,000-meter run. He sat in third place through the first four laps before overtaking the lead on lap 5 and posting a victory by a second and a half.
- Nathan Karl also entered the record books for the Mountaineers in the discus. Karl placed third in the event with a PR toss of 163-2 (49.74m). His mark now sits in a tie for sixth in the event in program history.
- In a field that saw 58 sprinters compete, Jabari Johnson posted a time of 10.71 seconds in the 100-meter dash to finish third.
- Calbert Guest also had a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing in 9:42.69.
- Tyler Lewis also had a strong showing in the triple jump. Lewis bettered his previous PR by over two feet to finish fourth with a mark of 47-11.75 (14.62m).
- Yates Hall cleared 6-5.00 (1.96m) in the high jump to finish fifth and Dwayne Lillie posted a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:58.78. Patrick Freeman also recorded a seventh-place finish, clearing 14-11.00 (4.55m) in the pole vault.

APP STATE IN NCAA EAST RANKINGS
App State features four athletes ranked in the top 50 in their respective events in the NCAA East rankings. The top 32 individuals and top 24 relays advance to the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fal. from May 27 to May 29.
