BOONE, N.C. – The App State softball team takes a break from conference play this weekend, hosting Radford in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.

North Carolina Executive Order No. 195, which went into effect Friday, Feb. 26, permits up to 30 percent capacity for outdoor athletic venues and up to 15 percent for indoor athletic venues. Due to space limitations and required social distancing in the stands at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium, only family members of student-athletes, coaches and staff (56 total) can attend games at this time. No walk-up guests will be admitted.
Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch for those on the pass list. Parking can be found at the Stadium Deck, Champions Lot and Top of the Rock. No concessions will be available.
At all App State venues, six feet of social distancing between seating pods is required, and face coverings are required for all guests and game day staff. All fans must remain at least 15 feet from the dugouts and bullpen areas.
About the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers sit at 14-10 on the season, with their last game a 6-5 win in eight innings over Georgia State. The 6-5 victory was App State's second straight extra-inning victory and its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season. The game was a back-and-forth affair as there were three lead changes throughout the game. Both teams came out swinging as the Mountaineers racked up 14 hits, while the Panthers tallied 10.
Keri White was a big contributor to App State's three wins last week, tallying at least one hit in every game. In the doubleheader against Western Carolina, White had three hits, including one home run. The 5th year senior also scored one run and stole two bases. Against Georgia State, White went 3-for-5 in the eight-inning win with a crucial RBI. She ended the week leading the team with a .500 average and on base percentage, as well as a .750 slugging percentage. White currently ranks seventh in the Sun Belt in stolen bases with nine.
Kenzie Longanecker earned two of three Mountaineer wins in the circle last week, improving to 8-3 on the season with a 5-1 win over Western Carolina and a 6-5, eight-inning win over Georgia State, the first Sun Belt win of the season for App State. Longanecker posted a 2.33 ERA on the week, allowing just five earned runs, striking out three. In the eight-inning win over Georgia State, the 5th year senior went all eight to earn the win. She currently ranks 8th overall in the conference with a 2.12 ERA and 7th in strikeouts with 48.

The Mountaineers turned their 14th double play this season against Georgia State, compared to only four turned by their opponents. App State matched a game-high against Texas State (3/21), turning three double plays in the first game for the first time since 2016. The Mountaineers currently rank first in the Sun Belt in double plays turned per game (0.58) and 9th in the NCAA.

Sydney Holland, a right-handed pitcher from Statesville, N.C.
A member of the softball team for three seasons, Sydney has appeared in 47 games in a Mountaineer uniform, making 39 starts in the circle. She has logged an overall record of 25-16 and her career ERA currently sits at 2.47. Through her three years with the program, Sydney has struck out 130 batters and pitched five shutouts.
Scouting Radford
The Highlanders are currently 12-16 on the season and 5-1 in the Big South conference. Radford most recently played Western Carolina in a doubleheader on Tuesday, falling 5-4 and 4-3. Four different Radford players are hitting over .300, with Sydney Fisher leading the way with a .380. She has 6 doubles on the year and one triple, with 19 runs scored. Jessie Marvin has thrown the most innings in the circle, appearing in 15 games with 82 innings pitched. She sits at 4-9 on the season, with a 4.52 ERA and 40 strikeouts.
