Box Score DAVIDSON, N.C. - App State women's tennis ended the regular season on a high note with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Davidson on Sunday afternoon.
App State improves to 6-13 while Davidson falls to 5-13 on the year.
The showdown came down to the third set in the final singles match in a battle between the No. 1's in the lineup. María José Zacarias prevailed over Josie Schaffer, defeating her counterpart in a 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 6-3 defeat to give App State the win.
App State won the doubles point and three singles matches to pull out the triumph.
Ksenia Aleshina/Zacarias got back on track with a 6-3 win over Schaffer/Elizabeth Truluck as the top duo in the lineup. After the Wildcats won on Court 3, Helena Jansen and Sandra Anglesjö clinched the 1-0 lead following a 6-3 victory against Franny Shea/Charlotte James.
The Wildcats tied up the contest on the sixth court in singles before the Black and Gold went up 3-1. Jansen continued her solid day with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-2 triumph against Mira Gladstone.
Anglesjö added to her doubles victory after downing Shea in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Davidson came back to tie up the contest with a pair of singles wins, which set up the thrilling match on the first court.
The trio of Zacarias, Anglesjö and Jensen earned wins in both singles and doubles.
App State will await its opponent for the Sun Belt Tournament that takes place this upcoming week April 15-18 in Peachtree, City, Ga.

- Zacarias is on a four-match win streak going into the postseason in singles.
-Aleshina/Zacarias are now 10-3 in doubles, while Anglesjö/Jensen are also 10-3. The two tandems are now a combined 20-6 on the season.
