STATESBORO, Ga. - App State women's tennis suffered a 4-1 loss to Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon at the Wallis Tennis Center.
App State falls to 4-9 while falling to 3-4 in league action. Georgia Southern improves to 12-8 and 4-3 in the Sun Belt.
The Mountaineers captured the doubles point, but the Eagles responded by winning four singles matches for the victory.
After Georgia Southern won the first doubles contest on the third court, the Black and Gold bounced back by winning the next two matches to claim a 1-0 lead.
Sandra Anglesjö/Helena Jansen upped its win streak to four matches following their 6-4 triumph against Paula Boixader/Nadja Meier as the No. 2 duo. For the second time in as many matches, María José Zacarias/Ksenia Aleshina clinched the doubles point thanks to their 6-3 victory against Charlotte Van Diemen/Sophie Wagemaker.
Zacarias was led, 6-3, 5-2 in her match before the contest went unfinished. GS won all four singles contests in straight sets.
App State returns to action on Wednesday at 1 p.m. against UNCG on the road in Greensboro.
