COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Maya Hanks captured both the long jump and triple jump to lead App State women's track & field at the Weems Baskin Invitational.
Hanks won the long jump on Friday with her first jump of the day, which covered 18-11.25 (5.77m). She then went on to win the triple jump on Saturday by nearly a foot. Yet again, Hanks posted the top mark in the event on her first attempt, covering a PR mark 40-6.25 (12.35m).
The 4x300-meter relay team broke a school record in the event.
Taylor Smith,
Ani Judd,
Peighton Simmons and
Jelonnie Smith crossed in a time of 2:41.64, bettering the previous mark of 2:42.92, set in 2003.
The 4x800-meter relay team of
Jasmine Donohue,
Izzy Evely,
Elizabeth Fuller and
Sarah Venable crossed second in 9:20.72.
Donohue and Evely also posted top-five finishes in the 1,500-meter run with times of 4:37.71 (PR) and 4:46.94, respectively.
Bridget Kunkel shattered her PR by nearly 20 seconds in the 3,000-meter run. Kunkel crossed fourth overall in the event with a time of 10:23.58.
Also in the triple jump, Simmons placed third with a mark of 38-6.00 (11.73m) and
Nevaeh Haddock was fourth in the long jump, covering 18-7.00 (5.66m).
Madison McCoy took fifth in the hammer throw with a PR toss of 162-6 (49.54m). Her mark betters her standing in program history to eighth place. McCoy also bettered her mark in the discus, moving from tenth place to eighth place with a toss covering a PR distance of 145-9 (44.43m).
The Mountaineers saw another athlete better her standing in the record books.
LaBria King posted a time of 11.81 seconds in the 100-meter dash, bettering her standing of eighth place in program history by .02 seconds.
App State will return to action next weekend at the Chanticleer Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina.
