Women's Tennis Travels to Georgia for Sun Belt Weekend

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's tennis hits the road this weekend to face Georgia State on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Atlanta before ending the weekend on Sunday against the Georgia Southern at 10 a.m. in Statesboro.

About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
App State fell to Coastal Carolina in its previous matchup, 6-1, last Sunday. Helena Jansen and Sandra Anglesjö won a doubles match while KseniaAleshina turned in a straight-set victory. The Apps were shorthanded in both matches last weekend, giving their opponent a doubles and singles win before the contest started. 

Sun Belt Update
App State is in a tie for sixth place at 2-3 with Georgia Southern and Troy. The Mountaineers have five conference matches going into the weekend with three of the matchups at home. 

Sun Belt Leaders
After a solid weekend for the duo of Anglesjö/Jansen, the pair are tied for first in conference play with three victories, while Jansen leads the league in the third spot in conference victories with three. MaríaJoséZacarias/Aleshina are tied for second with two conference wins in doubles as the No. 1 tandem, and Aleshina is tied for second in singles with two wins as the No. 2 in the lineup. 

A Sweep this Weekend
- Improve the Apps' record to 5-8 and 4-3 in league play. 
- Give App State its first road win and weekend sweep.
- Sweep the season series against Georgia State and Georgia Southern.

Scouting Georgia State
Georgia State is 2-12 on the season and has yet to win a league game this season. GSU's wins are against Charleston Southern and College of Charleston in non-conference action. AndreeaStanescu leads the team in singles action with seven wins. Ellie Aldrich/Stanescu leads the team with a 6-2 mark in doubles. 

Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles are 10-8 after winning their last two matches against Troy and Mercer, respectively. Georgia Southern improved to 2-3 in Sun Belt action after defeating the Trojans, 4-3, last Sunday. Seven student-athletes boast at least five singles wins with Mila Hartig owning a team-high nine victories. Paula Hijos and Najda Meier each have eight wins. GS is 56-39 in singles this season. Elizabeth Goines/Sonja Keranen are 5-3 to lead GS in doubles play. Charlotte van Diemen/Sophie Wagemaker are right behind their teammates with four wins. The Eagles are 25-26 in doubles action. 

What's Next
App State returns to action on Wednesday at UNCG at 1 p.m. in Greensboro, rounding out a seven-match road trip.
