Softball Set for Sun Belt Series vs. Georgia State

BOONE, N.C. – App State returns home on Friday, taking on Sun Belt opponent Georgia State in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. First pitch for game two is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. and the final game will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

North Carolina Executive Order No. 195, which went into effect Friday, Feb. 26, permits up to 30 percent capacity for outdoor athletic venues and up to 15 percent for indoor athletic venues. Due to space limitations and required social distancing in the stands at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium, only family members of student-athletes, coaches and staff (56 total) can attend games at this time. No walk-up guests will be admitted.
 
Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch for those on the pass list. Parking can be found at the Stadium Deck, Champions Lot and Top of the Rock. No concessions will be available. At all App State venues, six feet of social distancing between seating pods is required, and face coverings are required for all guests and game day staff. All fans must remain at least 15 feet from the dugouts and bullpen areas.
 
About the Mountaineers
 
App State (13-10) completed the doubleheader sweep of Western Carolina (5-15) on Tuesday afternoon, coming from behind to win the first game 5-1 and winning a 10-inning second game 4-3. The Mountaineers currently sit at 0-5 in conference play, falling to South Alabama and Texas State.
 
Baylee Morton hit her seventh home run of the season against the Catamounts, as she continues to lead the Sun Belt in the long ball. She has also drawn a team-high 22 walks which also leads the Sun Belt. Gabby Buruato and Kayt Houston are each hitting over .300, as Buruato has a .357 average with five doubles and one triple, while Houston is hitting .338 with three home runs, two triples and five doubles.
 
Kenzie Longanecker has been the go-to in the circle for App State, posting a 7-3 record and a 1.96 ERA, ranking fifth in the conference. The 5th year senior has also struck out 45 in her 71.1 innings pitched, ranking T-6th in the Sun Belt.
 
Senior Celebration
 
Throughout the home season, the Mountaineers will recognize their six seniors in a pregame ceremony. This weekend, App State will recognize 5th year Sydney Holland, a right-handed pitcher from Statesville, N.C.
 
A member of the softball team for three seasons, Sydney has appeared in 47 games in a Mountaineer uniform, making 39 starts in the circle. She has logged an overall record of 25-16 and her career ERA currently sits at 2.47. Through her three years with the program, Sydney has struck out 130 batters and pitched five shutouts.
 
Scouting Georgia State
 
The Panthers currently sit at 12-14 on the season and 0-6 in the Sun Belt, with their most recent series against Texas State. GSU fell to the Bobcats 6-2, 9-0 and 10-5. Daisy Hess brings the power in the lineup for Georgia State, hitting .381 on the year with eight home runs, nine doubles and one triple. She has also tallied 33 RBIs. Three other Panthers are hitting over .300 on the season: Bailee Richardson (.359), Emily Brown (.330) and Sophie Mooney (.303). In the circle, Emily Buck (3-3) has thrown 43.1 innings, giving up 38 hits with a 3.88 ERA. The redshirt sophomore has 23 strikeouts on the year.
