BOONE, N.C. - Peighton Simmons shined in the women's indoor track and field season opener on Friday and Saturday.
Simmons' triple jump mark of 43-00.25 Friday night broke the Holmes Center record by nearly three feet. The previous record was 40-6.25, which was held by Ronda White since 2006.
Simmons' record also marked the second-longest indoor triple jump in program history. In long jump on Saturday, Simmons' PR of 6.06 meters propelled her to another individual first-place effort.
App State tallied four first-place finishes in four separate events to close out hosting the opener, the App State Invite.
Taylor Smith placed first in the 55 meter dash with a PR time of 7.10. LaBria King also made the podium in the 55 meter dash, placing third at 7.13.
Jelonnie Smith recorded the Mountaineer's fourth first-place effort on the weekend in the 300 meter dash with a PR time of 39.86. Fellow Mountaineer Mariah Atwater came in second a few ticks behind Smith at 40.14.
In field events, freshman Daiyanna Cooper posted a third-place effort in weight throw, among 21 participants, with a mark of 50-00.00.
In pole vault, Casey Meinert tied a PR of 3.51 meters to finish second in the event.
Megan Plummer finished third in shot put, boasting a PR of 12.19 meters. Plummer also posted a PR in weight throw, a 44-07.00.
App State women's indoor track and field will now set its sights on the ETSU Track & Field Invitational on Jan. 14-15.
