App State Set for Non-Conference Finale at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- App State men's basketball will take on its second straight ACC opponent, hitting the road to take on North Carolina in its non-conference finale on Tuesday evening on ACC Network at 7 p.m.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the seventh meeting between the two schools, with North Carolina leading 6-0.
  • The Tar Heels won the last meeting between the two schools on Dec. 21, 2015 by a 94-70 score.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State fell 92-67 at No. 2 Duke on Thursday.
  • Michael Almonacy had 17 points and Justin Forrest tallied 16 points. James Lewis Jr. added 11 points and seven rebounds and Adrian Delph reached double figures in scoring for the 10th time this season with 10 points,
  • Delph is just one of four players in the Sun Belt averaging 15.0 points or more, ranking fourth in the conference at 15.3 points.
  • Delph is also third in the league averaging 2.5 made threes a game.
  • App State is holding opponents to 60.8 points, which is third in the conference and 27.6 percent shooting on 3-pointers, which sits second in the league and 29th nationally.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
  • North Carolina dropped a 98-69 contest against No. 21-ranked Kentucky on Saturday.
  • Armando Bacot paced the Tar Heels with 22 points and 10 rebounds. RJ Davis also reached double figures with 10 points, while adding a team-high three assists.
  • A total of five Tar Heels are averaging double figures in scoring in Caleb Love (15.5 ppg), Bacot (15.0 ppg), Davis (12.8 ppg), Brady Manek (12.5 ppg) and Dawson Garcia (11.6 ppg).
  • Bacot sits second in the ACC, averaging 9.8 rebounds.
  • As a team, North Carolina ranks first in the ACC in rebound margin (+8.1), second in rebounding (39.3 rpg) and third in scoring offense (79.4 ppg).
UP NEXT
App State will take time off for the holiday and open Sun Belt play on Dec. 30 against Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. in Boone.
