DAVIDSON, N.C. - App State women's basketball fell on the road to Davidson, 66-48, Wednesday at John M. Belk Arena.
With back-to-back losses, the Mountaineers dropped to 6-5 on the season. The Wildcats improved 6-3 overall with Wednesday's win.
Both Mariah Frazier and A'Lea Gilbert made their starting debuts for the Mountaineers. Offensively, Michaela Porter single-handedly led the charge for the Black and Gold with 22 points, recording a new career high at App State.
The Mountaineers finished the first period with some momentum despite trailing by four courtesy of an and-one effort from Zada Porter with 17 seconds remaining. App State would match Davidson's 14-point second to trail 29-25 at the break.
The wire-to-wire battle between the two squads eased in the fourth as the Wildcats pulled away for the 18-point decision, outscoring the Mountaineers 21-13 in the third and 16-10 in the final period.
App State struggled from the line shooting 8-20 (40 percent) as well as from behind the arc, converting only four trifectas on the day. The Mountaineers average 7.9 made threes per game this season. The Wildcats also won the battle on the boards, 36-33.
Next up, App State will welcome Old Dominion on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Holmes Center before closing out non-conference play against Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, Dec. 21. Saturday's matchup will be streamed on ESPN+.
