DURHAM, N.C. -- App State men's basketball begins a two-game road swing against ACC foes, beginning on Thursday night at No. 2-ranked Duke. Tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
THE SERIES
- This will be the 10th meeting between the two schools, with the Blue Devils leading 8-1.
- The two teams last met on Nov. 26, 2016 with the Blue Devils winning 93-58.
- App State defeated Duke 75-70 on Dec. 5, 1981 in Durham.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- App State improved to 6-5 on the season with a 69-44 triumph over Erskine on Monday.
- Donovan Gregory paced the Mountaineers with a season-high 16 points, while adding five rebounds and a pair of steals. Adrian Delph added nine points and Michael Almonacy, Justin Forrest and Terence Harcum each added eight points.
- Delph sits fifth in the Sun Belt, averaging a career-high 15.8 points. He is averaging 2.5 made three per game, which ranks third in the Sun Belt.
- The Mountaineers are limiting opponents to 52.5 points over their last six games, holding five of those six opponents to 65 points or less.
- As a team, App State leads the Sun Belt and ranks sixth in the nation in opponent 3-point percentage (.252) and sits atop the conference and ranks 18th nationally in opponent scoring (58.0 ppg).
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
- Duke improved to 8-1 on the season with a 103-62 win over South Carolina State on Tuesday.
- The Blue Devils are ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll.
- In Tuesday's win, six players scored in double figures for Duke in AJ Griffin (19), Trevor Keels (14), Joey Baker (13), Paolo Banchero (12), Wendell Moore Jr. (11) and Mark Williams (10).
- Banchero is averaging a team-high 17.1 points, with Moore Jr. right behind at 17.0 points. Keels is also averaging double figures at 12.1 points.
- Duke ranks third nationally in assist to turnover ratio at 1.95 and is committing just 9.3 turnovers per game, which ranks eighth in the nation.
