App State Hosts ETSU in Home Opener on Friday

BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball will host ETSU in its home opener on Friday evening. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

COVID-19 safety precautions
  • There are no crowd size restrictions at this time
  • Face coverings are required in all indoor areas, regardless of vaccination status. If actively eating, face coverings are not required to be worn
  • Face coverings are not required outside the Holmes Convocation Center
  • Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the facility
THE SERIES
  • This will be the 127th meeting between the two schools, with ETSU leading 80-46.
  • This will be the first meeting between the two teams in Boone since the 2008-09 season.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State dropped its season opener at Iona on Tuesday evening 65-53.
  • Adrian Delph paced App State with a team-high 15 points, while adding eight rebounds. Michael Almonacy had nine points, Justin Forrest tallied eight points and James Lewis Jr. finished with seven points and a team-best nine rebounds.
  • Forrest was named Preseason First Team All-Sun Belt by the league's head coaches, after averaging a team-best 13.2 points and earning Second Team All-Sun Belt honors.
  • In all, the Mountaineers return 12 players from last seasons team that won the Sun Belt Tournament title and made the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2000.
SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
  • ETSU went 13-12 last season and 8-7 in Southern Conference play.
  • The Buccaneers were chosen to finish third in the Southern Conference Preseason Coaches Poll and fifth in the Southern Conference Preseason Media Poll.
  • Ledarrius Brewer and David Sloan were both tabbed as Preseason All-Southern Conference.
  • Brewer was also named to the Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List after earning First Team All-Southern Conference honors and averaging 16.2 points.
