GREENSBORO, N.C. — App State Women's Golf claimed third place at the Aggie Invitational on Tuesday thanks to a 3-2 victory that gave the Mountaineers two wins in three matches at Bryan Park.
Facing event host North Carolina A&T after a 1-1 day Monday, App State took three of five matches with wins from
Layla Meric,
Hannah Wang and
Kayla Ward.
Eighteen holes weren't enough to decide Meric's match, but she won the 19th hole for a 1-up victory. Wang had a 1-up victory in regulation, and Ward recorded a 3-and-1 win. The other two matches were both close, with
Mary-Sears Brown and
Alyssa Cox coming up just short in 1-up wins by the Aggies.
The victory against North Carolina A&T game after App State opened the event Monday with a win against Alabama State and then dropped its second match against eventual champion Elon.
