Volleyball to Host Louisiana, ULM This Weekend

BOONE, N.C. -- App State volleyball will conclude its four-match home stand this weekend by hosting Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and ULM at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be. streamed on ESPN+.

MASK POLICY
Face coverings are required in all indoor spaces on campus for students, faculty, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status you are actively eating or drinking.

DIG PINK
On Sunday, the Mountaineers will host their annual Dig Pink game to benefit the Side-Out Foundation. App State volleyball has set a fundraising goal of $2,000. The proceeds from all donations will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fairfax, VA. Side-Out dedicates the majority of donations to their own metastatic breast cancer research. In addition to research, Side-Out allocates a portion of their funds to high-quality support services for cancer patients and their families, as well as college scholarships for students who participate in the Ambassador Program. THE SERIES
  • App State and Louisiana will meet for the 10th time on Friday evening, with the Mountaineers leading 5-4. The two teams did not play last season and last met in 2019, with the Black and Gold overcoming a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.
  • App State and ULM meet for the eighth time on Sunday, with the Mountaineers leading 6-1. The two teams did not play last season and last met in 2019, with the Black and Gold winning 3-0...App State has won five straight in the series, all coming via sweeps.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State enters play at 5-13 on the season and 1-5 in Sun Belt play. 
  • The Mountaineers dropped a 3-0 home decision to Troy on Sunday. Anna Kincaid paced App State with five kills and a .308 hitting mark, while adding a pair of service aces. Lulu Ambrose and McCall Denny each had four kills. Emma Reilly had 10 digs and Sam Bickley dished out 11 assists to go along with six digs.
  • Reilly has a program record 1,986 career digs and is just 14 shy of becoming the first player in program history to reach 2,000 career digs. She also would become just the fourth player in Sun Belt history to reach the feat.
  • Reilly is one of four players in the conference to have over 300 total digs this season, sitting third with 307. Her 4.39 digs per set average sits seventh, Denny is averaging 2.98 kills per set, which sits tenth.
SCOUTING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
  • Louisiana improved to 11-4 overall and stayed atop the Sun Belt West Division with a 6-1 mark in a 3-0 sweep of ULM on Tuesday.
  • Kara Barnes, Kelsey Bennett and Coco Gillett each had eight kills in the win. Cami Hicks and Chinelo Ogogor added six apiece. Hannah Ramirez had 14 digs, while Hillett added 13.
  • Hicks sits third in the conference with a .345 hitting percentage and Barnes is hitting .305, which sits fifth. Bennett ranks third in kills per set, averaging 3.83.
  • As a team, Louisiana leads the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.246) and sits second in kills per set (13.43).
SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS
  • ULM fell to 5-16 and 1-6 in Sun Belt play after falling 3-0 to Louisiana on Tuesday.
  • Avery Cole and Phoebe Stigen each had eight kills for ULM. Madeline Hogan and Kaitlin Davis each tallied 11 digs.
  • Cami Assaley is averaging 3.37 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt. Emma McWhorter is averaging 0.33 service aces per set, which ranks tenth.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers hit the road next weekend for a pair of matches in Texas. App State will take on UT Arlington on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. EST and Texas State on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. EST.
