NEW ORLEANS - App State women's basketball senior guard Pre Stanley was named the Sun Belt Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
It's the second time this season Stanley earns the weekly honor, becoming one of two players in the league (Alexus Dye-Troy) to be named player of the week multiple times. She is the first App State student-athlete to be named player of the week twice in one season since Anna Freeman during the 2011-12 campaign when the Apps were in the SoCon. Also, Stanley was named the College Sport Madness National Player of the Week for her superb efforts.
The Rockledge, Fla., native dominated Georgia State averaging 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 3.0 assists, shot 64.5 percent from the field, and 93.3 percent from the line. She played a pivotal role in the Apps registering their first Sun Belt sweep of the season, first league road sweep since 2015-16, and season-long three-game win streak.
Stanley had a hand in 53.2 percent of the team's points (73/137) through the two contests with 55 points and all six assists going for 3-pointers for 18 points. Stanley posted game-highs in points in both contests highlighted by a personal-best 29 points in Saturday's win, scoring 10 of her 16 second-half points in the fourth period. The 29 points are also the most in a conference game this season.
On Saturday, she ignited a 14-0 run with six straight points in the final period to help App push past GSU. On Friday, Stanley tied a then-season high in points with 26 on an efficient 9-of-11 performance from the floor, while 16 points came in the second half (12 in the fourth). She also grabbed a game and season-high eight rebounds and recorded a season-best four steals in both wins.
Stanley is having a stellar season, where she is averaging career highs in scoring (17.4 ppg), field goal percentage (.500), 3-point field goal percentage (.550), free throw percentage (.761), and assists per game (2.6).
She enters this upcoming weekend second in the Sun Belt in scoring and fourth in field goal percentage. She is making her way up the all-time scoring list, as she is eighth all-time with 1,403 points.
She and the Apps return to action this weekend when it hosts Troy on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
