PFF Ranks App State CBs as Top FBS Tandem

BOONE, N.C. — App State Football continues to receive national acclaim from the grade-based PFF College site, which says senior Shemar Jean-Charles and junior Shaun Jolly currently make up the best FBS cornerback tandem in the country.
 
Jean-Charles leads the country with six PBUs through two games. Jolly, a preseason All-American, hasn't been targeted as frequently as he was during a 2019 season in which he had two pick-six touchdowns among his five interceptions and posted a grade that tied LSU's Derek Stingley Jr. for No. 1 among 496 qualifying FBS cornerbacks.
 
According to PFF, 12 of Marshall quarterback Grant Wells' 25 pass attempts went to the outside Saturday, and App State's starting cornerbacks allowed only four to be caught — with only two resulting in first downs. PFF determined that Jean-Charles and Jolly combined for three forced incompletions and allowed a passer rating of just 46.2 one week after Jean-Charles was named the site's National Defensive MVP of the Week for his performance against Charlotte.

App State's defense ranks No. 1 nationally by allowing a completion rate of just 40.0 percent (22 of 55 thanks to an 11-for-30 showing by Charlotte and 11-for-25 effort from Marshall). The Mountaineers lead the nation with 18 passes defended (six more than second place), 

PFF College also holds App State's offensive line in high regard, ranking it No. 4 among FBS offensive lines through the first three weeks of the 2020 season. Senior center Noah Hannon made PFF's National Offense of the Week based on how he graded out against Marshall.
