About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers rolled past ULM in a 69-48 triumph on Senior Day last weekend.
Michaela Porter scored a career-high 17 points off the bench, while
Pre Stanley scored 14 points.
Bayley Plummer grabbed 11 rebounds with five points. Appalachian scored a season-high 27 points off 23 ULM turnovers, while improving to 10-0 all-time against the Warhawks.
Sun Belt Scenarios
App State is in eighth going into the week but could rise to seventh with a win and a pair of losses by Arkansas State. The Mountaineers could fall to ninth given a loss and a Georgia Southern win over Georgia State. If South Alabama finishes higher than Louisiana, the Apps would win the tiebreaker with the Eagles and earn the eighth seed as USA is the highest win for the Black and Gold.
What to Watch for
- App State is averaging 15.5 points off turnovers in its wins after posting a season-high 27 from ULM's miscues. Watch if the Mountaineers can turn over Coastal Carolina for easy opportunities.
- The Mountaineers are allowing just under 60 points in their 10 wins. Watch if the defense can slow down a Coastal Carolina offense that is 13th in the country.
- It's that time of the year when Stanley starts turning it on, as in March and April (one game), she is averaging 16.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 13 career games. Also, she is shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 41 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free-throw line. Watch if the junior can continue her March Madness run.
- Coastal's defense has allowed 9.8 3-pointers over the last six games, including at least 10 treys in three games. Watch if the Apps can make their 3-point attempts after shooting 44.4 percent against the Warhawks.
- Coastal is averaging 14.8 offensive rebounds per game this season. Watch if the Black and Gold keep CCU from gaining second-chance opportunities.
