Men's Basketball Hosts UT Arlington on Thursday

BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball returns to the High Country on Thursday evening, hosting UT Arlington at 7 p.m. Both teams enter the contest with 6-6 records in Sun Belt play. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.

TICKETS
Season tickets and single game tickets for the 2019-20 season are on sale and can be purchased by calling the App State ticket office at 828-262-2079.

PROMOTIONS
App State students will receive free food and giveaways (while supplies last) compliments of Appalachian State University Residence Hall Association. In addition, an unveiling of the basketball student section will take place during the game.

ALCOHOL
Plans for alcohol sales at select men's and women's 2019-20 home games include:
  • Craft beer, domestic beer and wine will be sold on the concourse near Section 12.
  • Service begins when doors open one hour prior to tipoff and ends at the conclusion of the third quarter for women's games and at the under 12:00 media timeout of the second half for men's games.
  • All patrons will be required to produce valid identification, which will be checked at the point of sale during each transaction.
  • Per state law, patrons 21 years of age or older will be permitted to purchase a maximum of one alcoholic beverage per transaction with valid identification.
  • Patrons will not be permitted to leave the Holmes Convocation Center with alcohol purchased within the venue.
  • Law enforcement and contracted security staff will monitor the concourse and seating areas for underage drinking, beverage pass-offs and problematic patrons or situations.
  • Public service announcements about drinking responsibly will be shown on the video board and announced via the arena's public address system.
  • Alcohol will be served at all men's basketball home games for the remainder of the season.
THE SERIES
  • This will be the 14th meeting between the two schools, with UT Arlington holding an 11-2 edge
  • The Mavericks won the first meeting this season in Arlington on Jan. 8 by a 66-56 score
LAST MEETING
  • The two teams met earlier this season on Jan. 8 in Arlington, with the Mavericks prevailing 66-56
  • Kendall Lewis had a career-high 17 points and a career-high tying 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Justin Forrest added 15 points and five assists, while Donovan Gregory pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds
  • UT Arlington drained five three-pointers in the first eight minutes to open a 19-13 lead. The Mavericks pushed their lead to double digits at 26-15, before App State used a basket from James Lewis Jr. and Gregory to trim the deficit to seven at 26-17. UTA pushed its lead to as large as 12, but the Black and Gold scored the final four points of the opening half to trail 33-25 at the break. In the second half, App State scored five consecutive points to pull within five at 37-32 with just under 16 minutes to play. The Mavericks extended their lead back to 11 points, but the Mountaineers responded with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 49-45 with 7:34 remaining. App State pulled within three at 55-52 with 3:49 left, only to see the Mavericks answer with a 9-2 run to open a 10-point lead and put the game away
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State dropped a 93-86 decision at league leading Little Rock on Saturday to fall to 12-11 and 6-6 in Sun Belt play. App State shot a program record 72.7 percent from the field. The mark also ranks as the second best shooting percentage in a game this season across all of Division I
  • On Saturday, Justin Forrest tallied 23 points on 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) shooting. O'Showen Williams went a perfect 7-of-7 from the field to finish with 18 points and Isaac Johnson had 17 points, a career-high nine assists and four steals
  • Forrest was named Co-Sun Belt Player of the Week after averaging 24.5 points last week on a combined 57.7 percent (15-of-26) shooting and 60.0 percent (9-of-15) shooting from beyond the arc during the weekend. It marks the second time he has earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors this season and third time in his career
  • App State has five players averaging over 4.0 rebounds per game in Johnson (7.2 rpg), Hunter Seacat (4.6 rpg), Adrian Delph (4.5 rpg), Williams (4.2 rpg) and Kendall Lewis (4.1 rpg)
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
  • UT Arlington posted a 68-54 win over ULM on Saturday to improve to 10-13 on the season and 6-6 in Sun Belt play. The Mavericks have won four of their last five games
  • In the win, Sam Griffin had 17 points, while Radshad Davis tallied 15 points off the bench. Jabari Narcis added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds
  • David Azore leads the Mavericks in scoring at 15.2 points, with Brian Warren also averaging double figures at 12.5 points
  • As a team, UTA leads the Sun Belt in assists average (15.0) and free throw percentage (.765)
