UNCG (6-1) is off to a strong start in 2020, winning six-straight after dropping its season-opening contest at Coastal Carolina. The Spartans notched victories over ACC opponent Virginia Tech and Mountain West foe San Diego State to conclude their showing at the Brittain Resorts' Baseball at the Beach Tournament in Conway, South Carolina earlier in February.
Four Spartans with at least 10 at-bats are batting .300 or better so far this season. Freshman Pres Cavenaugh leads UNCG with a .583 batting average and has tallied four RBIs and two runs scored so far this season. Senior Caleb Webster leads the Spartans in home runs (two), RBIs (five) and total bases (18).
The Spartans finished 34-20 in 2019, including a 24-7 record at UNCG Baseball Stadium. UNCG posted a 14-10 record in Southern Conference play, ending its 2019 season with a 9-5 loss to Mercer in the SoCon Tournament.
UNCG's projected weekend rotation will feature left-hander Jake Lewis on Friday, right-hander Austin Koehn on Saturday and right-hander Jeremiah Triplett on Sunday. App State will stick with its same weekend rotation in Greensboro, starting left-hander
Tyler Tuthill on Friday, right-hander
Shane Roberts on Saturday and left-hander
Quinton Martinez on Sunday.
The Mountaineers search for their first weekend-series victory after Wednesday's win at Wake Forest. The victory marked App State's first win over the Demon Deacons since 2015.
