Women's Basketball Travels to Face Virginia Tech

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's basketball aims to stay undefeated when it travels to Blacksburg, Va. to face Virginia Tech on Friday at 4 p.m. on ACC Network.

About the Mountaineers

Last Time Out
App State turned in a 70-60 victory against UNC Asheville to improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Pre Stanley poured in 19 of her game-high 25 points, including 15 in the fourth to lead the Apps. Brooke Bigott scored a personal-high 15 while Michaela Porter recorded a second straight double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Lainey Gosnell  grabbed a personal-high 13 rebounds as well. 

Stanley Named Sun Belt Player of the Week
After averaging 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists last week, the senior was named Player of the Week for the first time in her career. The Rockledge, Fla., native scored 31 of her 45 points in the second quarter with 22 of those points in the final period. Stanley outscored UNCA by herself, 15-13, including the final nine points of the game. 

One of Two
App State is one of two teams in the nation with Boston College to have two players average at least two players average 11.5 rpg. Porter and Gosnell both pull down 11.5 rebounds per game as they each have had double-figure rebounding performances in each game. 

A Win Would
- Give the Mountaineers a 3-0 start for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
- Give the Apps their first Power Five win since 2011-12 (NC State). 
- Improve to 5-12 against Virginia Tech.
- Give the Apps their first win in Blacksburg.

What to Watch for
- App State has a plus-8.5 rebounding margin through the first two games, highlighted by double-figure rebounding averages by Gosnell (11.5 rpg) and Porter (11.5 rpg). Watch if the Apps can stay successful on the glass.
- Virginia Tech is tied for first in the nation averaging 14 3-pointers, second with 42 3-pointers made, and in the top 20 shooting 44.7 percent from 3-point land. See if the Mountaineers can contain the Hokies' 3-point attack.
- Bigott is shooting 54.5 percent from beyond the arc this season and 44.1 percent over the last 14 games dating back to last season. Watch if the junior can continue her solid shooting.
- Over the last five road games dating back to last season, Gosnell is averaging 16 points, seven rebounds, and shooting 49.1 percent from the floor. See if the senior can have a solid Friday at Virginia Tech.
- Opponents against Virginia Tech are averaging 17 free throw attempts through three games. Watch if the Mountaineers can get to the line as they average 22.5 through their first two contests. 

Scouting Virginia Tech
- Virginia Tech is off to a hot 3-0 start following a 92-57 win over George Washington on Tuesday.
- Four players scored in double figures with Aisha Sheppard pouring in 22 points. Elizabeth Kitley posted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 boards.
- The Hokies' average margin of victory has been 23 points this season.
- Sheppard leads five Virginia Tech players in double figures averaging 18 points per game.
- Kitley is pulling down a team-high 13.0 rebounds per game.
- Virginia Tech has been dominating at home with 58 straight non-conference victories in Cassell Coliseum.
- The Hokies came off its best ACC finish last season at fourth place. Kitley leads the nation with three double-doubles. 

Series History
Friday's contest is the first since 2012 when the Apps fell to the Hokies 71-68.
