Men's Basketball Hosts Columbia International in Non-Conference Home Finale

BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball will host Columbia International in its non-conference home finale on Friday afternoon. Tip is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.

SPECTATOR INFO
With the implementation of Governor Roy Cooper's Executive Order 176, Phase 3 of North Carolina's eased coronavirus restrictions allows for indoor venues to have no more than 25 spectators. These 25 tickets will be reserved for student-athlete families. All 25 ticket recipients will be assigned a seat for upcoming games.

  • This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
LAST TIME OUT
  • App State posted a 87-47 win over Greensboro College on Thursday evening.
  • Donovan Gregory finished with a career high 18 points and a career high tying five assists. Adrian Delph had 12 points and a season best seven rebounds, while Deshon Parker tallied 10 points, five assists and three steals.
  • App State broke an early 2-2 tie with a 9-3 spurt to take an 11-5 edge. Leading 22-17, the Black and Gold used a 12-3 run to extend its lead to 34-20. The Mountaineers closed the opening half on a 12-2 run and took a 46-25 edge into the break. In the second half, the Mountaineers limited the Pride (1-4) to just two points over the first 9:45 and pushed its lead to 63-27. App State opened a lead as large as 44 points in the second half, en route to the victory.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • With their win Thursday, the Mountaineers improved to 5-2 on the season and clinched their second straight non-conference winning record. Paired with a 6-5 mark in non-conference action last season, the Mountaineers have now posted back-to-back non-conference winning records for the first time since the 1998-99 season (6-4) and 1999-00 campaign (6-4).
  • Both Adrian Delph and Donovan Gregory have reached double figures in scoring in five of seven games this season.
  • App State leads the Sun Belt in free throw percentage, shooting 80.0 percent from the charity stripe.
  • Delph is averaging a team leading 12.1 points, followed by Gregory (11.3 ppg) and Kendall Lewis (10.7 ppg).
  • James Lewis Jr. is averaging a team best 4.6 rebounds and also has a team best eight blocks.
  • The Mountaineers hold four top-20 rankings nationally ranking eighth in blocks (37), 16th in free throw percentage (.800), 20th in rebounds (296) and 20th in free throws made (116).
SCOUTING THE RAMS
  • Columbia International is 5-3 on the season. The Rams dropped a 96-54 exhibition contest at ETSU on Thursday evening.
  • Corey Benton had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists...Skyler McKinney added nine points and Julio Rodriguez and Dianthony Heathcock each had eight points.
  • In eight countable games, Benton is averaging a team best 26.1 points and 6.3 rebounds.
  • McKinney (15.4 ppg), Eric Graham (14.1 ppg) and Brandon Doss (10.6 ppg) are also averaging double figures.

App State will close out non-conference play on Tuesday at Auburn at 2 p.m. on SEC Network+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
