Pre Stanley Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS - App State women's basketball senior guard Pre Stanley was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Stanley collects the award for the first time in her career after averaging 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and four assists in two wins over Charlotte and UNC Asheville last week.

The senior guard posted game highs in scoring in both contests while leading the Apps in scoring, assists and free-throw shooting. She scored 31 of her 45 total points in the second half, including 22 of those points in the fourth quarter.

In the victory over UNC Asheville on Sunday, Stanley poured in 19 of her game-high 25 points in the third and fourth quarters, highlighted by 15 in the final period. The Rockledge, Fla. outscored the Bulldogs by herself in the final frame, 15-13, after scoring the last nine points of the contest to seal the win for the Apps.

Against Charlotte, Stanley posted a game-best 20 points, tied a career-high with seven assists and grabbed six boards in the 74-68 win last Wednesday in the season opener. It was the first time she posted a game with at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Stanley is rising in the App State record books, as she is 16th all-time in program history with 1,204 points and seventh with 306 free throws made.

The Mountaineers are off to their first 2-0 start since the 2010-11 campaign. They will head to Blacksburg, Va. for a 4 p.m. tip on Friday against Virginia Tech on the ACC Network.
