Softball: 2019 Graduated Class - Ally Walters

BOONE, N.C. – As App State softball prepares for the 2020 season, take a look back at the 2019 senior class and what they are up to now. Next up, Ally Walters.

Walters appeared in 53 games with 51 starts her senior year, posting a .235 batting average and .382 slugging percentage. The slugger had six home runs on the year with 20 RBI and 32 hits.

The outfielder led the Mountaineers to a conference victory over Coastal Carolina on May 3 after posting three hits and five RBI, including a grand slam. Walters finished her career with 53 walks, ranked 10th in program history.

Since your graduation from App State, what have you been up to?

Before graduation, I was able to do my student teaching in Thailand.  After graduation, I was able to enjoy the App State football bowl game in New Orleans.  I also accepted my first teaching job as an ESE Middle School teacher in Orange City, Fla.

What was your major at App State and how did that prepare you for what you're doing now?

My major was Elementary Education.  It prepared me for what I am doing now because I am starting in the education field.

What did it mean to you to play softball for App State?

It was truly a dream to play Division I softball in general, but playing for App has taught me so many life skills.  After the first two years, playing for App was such a fun, family environment.

What was your favorite part of playing softball for App State?

My favorite part of playing softball for App State was the environment and culture of the athletics program. Traveling and connecting with new/old friends through softball.

Is there a specific game or tournament that stands out as a favorite that you played?

Going to the conference tournament stands out the most to me.  That is something that was always far-fetched my first few years of playing, but this team was special and we were determined to meet our goal of competing in the conference tournament.

What was your favorite part of going to school at App State?

I have always lived in Florida, so going to App was going to give me a bigger look at life and a way to become independent.  I wanted something different and at App, I got every bit of different that I was looking for.

Why did you choose App State to go to school?

I chose App State to go to school because I heard so many positive things about their education program.  I also wanted to enjoy the seasons of the Mountains.

What advice would you give to your freshman self?

If I were to give advice to my freshman self, I would tell her to enjoy the moment.  Be honest and be a good teammate no matter what.  Even when things don't go your way, stay true to yourself.
