LEXINGTON, Va. -- App State women's track & field captured the team title at the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers finished with 121.5 points to win the meet. Western Carolina was second with 105 points and ETSU finished third with 104 points.
In the pole vault,
Celia Agee cleared 11-7.75 (3.55m) in a vault off to finish first.
Silvanna Curtain cleared 10-6.00 (3.20m) to finish fifth in the event.
Djamila Petersen posted a PR leap of 39-9.75 (12.13m) in the triple jump to finish first.
Hassani Burris placed fifth in the triple jump with a PR leap of 38-7.00 (11.76m).
The Mountaineers also won the high jump, with
Kayla Carson clearing a PR height of 5-4.25 (1.63m).
App State had a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run.
Izzy Evely finished second in 17:42.90,
Lisha van Onselen was third in 17:53.99,
Natalie Richardson placed fourth with a PR mark of 17:56.93 and
Sarah Sandreuter was fifth with a time of 18:14.87.
In the 1-mile run,
Sarah Venable crossed second in 5:04.04 and
Kylee Frady finished fourth with a time of 5:06.34. Both times represent PR's for both athletes.
Taylor Smith recorded a pair of top-three finishes on the afternoon. Smith placed second in the long jump with a mark of 19-2.00 (5.84m) and crossed third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.73 seconds.
Jessica Dixon crossed second in the 400-meter dash in 56.86 seconds,
Casey Turro was fourth in the 3,000-meter run in a PR time of 10:35.01 and
Nevaeh Haddock placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 18-8.25 (5.54m).
App State will compete next at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational, hosted by ETSU, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
