BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Well-Being
Jon Mitchell has announced that Samantha Mellert has been named Director of Performance Nutrition.
"We are excited to welcome Samantha to App State," said Mitchell. "Her background as a nutritionist and dietician aligns with our priorities of keeping our student-athletes hydrated and eating properly."
Mellert comes to the High Country after serving as a Gatorade Sports Nutrition Immersion Program Fellow at Texas A&M. While with the Aggies, she managed the nutrition operations of the nationally ranked women's basketball team and both tennis programs. In addition, she developed and presented nutrition education materials on topics such as game day fueling, hydration and on the road nutrition.
"I am extremely grateful and excited to start this new path as a Mountaineer!", said Mellert. "I look forward to supporting the student-athletes and help them succeed in the classroom and in their sport through performance nutrition. This athletic program has a proud history and I am excited to contribute to its long-standing success."
Mellert also worked as a THOR3 Performance Program Dietetic Intern at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School and served as a fueling station volunteer and educator at Florida State.
She graduated from Kentucky with a degree in dietetics and earned her master's in exercise physiology with a concentration in sports nutrition from Florida State.
