BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball landed a pair of Mountaineers in
Bayley Plummer and
Pre Stanley on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Second Team.
Plummer garners the award for the second straight season while Stanley is named all-state for the first time in her career. The pair helped the Mountaineers have their best season in recent history with 22 victories and their second Women's Basketball Invitational title following a 76-59 victory over North Texas. The 17-point victory in the championship was the largest margin of victory in the title game. In addition, the 14-win turnaround going from eight to 22 wins is in the top five of the fifth-largest turnarounds in the country.Â
The junior from Thomasville had a stellar season for the Apps, where she once again dominated the glass, and this time in even more historic fashion. Plummer posted 463 rebounds for the season, which broke the single-season school record, smashing Valorie Whiteside's mark of 435 in 1984-85. For a second consecutive year, she led the Sun Belt in rebounding and finished sixth in the nation with a staggering average of 12.9 rebounds per game. She was the first player since Chastity Gooch (WKU) in 2012-13 to lead the conference in rebounding in consecutive seasons. Her rebounding average is the highest in the Sun Belt since 1993-94 when Travesa Grant (Lamar) averaged 13.2 rebounds per game. Plummer is one of eight players in league history to lead the conference in rebounds in back-to-back years. Plummer was named third-team All-Sun Belt for her whopping numbers.Â
Plummer also notched five games with at least 20 or more rebounds, including the last three games of the WBI Tournament highlighted by a career-high 22 rebounds against the Mean Green. Plummer is third all-time in school history with 990 rebounds and is just 10 boards from joining Whiteside (1,369 rebounds)) and Anna Freeman (1,008 rebounds) as the only players with 1,000 career boards.Â
Stanley had a solid sophomore season highlighted by a torrid stretch during the postseason. The Rockledge, Fla., native averaged 17.7 points on 51.6 percent shooting from the floor, 42.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 75.9 percent shooting from the charity stripe. She also added 3.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 rebounds in the Apps' 6-1 stretch in the Sun Belt and WBI Tournament. Stanley was named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team after putting forth averages of a team-high 15.7 points per game during the tournament and shot a team-best 51.4 percent from the field. The wing was sixth in the tournament in scoring and 10th in field goal percentage.
During the WBI Tournament, Stanley continued her hot stretch where she poured in 19.3 points and shot 51.9 percent from the field in four games en route to being named the WBI Tournament's Most Valuable Player.  She scored at least 15 points in all seven games during the postseason and scored a career-high 28 points in the victory over Marshall in the WBI quarterfinals.
Both players will return for App State next season in what looks to be a loaded squad that returns four of five starters.Â
