However, Stanley ended the period with four straight points to dwindle the gap to just one, 20-19.Â

Appalachian came to within six points, 67-61 after Story reached double figures. The Trojans pulled away as Appalachian went cold on offense for the next 3:04, which led to LR going up by double digits and sealing the win.Â
Kyra Collier (25 points), Ronjanae DeGray (19 points) and Raeyana DeGray (17 points) did the damage for the Trojans.Â
Despite the loss, Appalachian won two Sun Belt Tournament games and advanced to the semifinals for the first time since joining the league. The 10-win turnaround this season is the highest win improvement in the conference and the 18 wins are the most since the 2012-13 season. The Mountaineers finish the season winning six of their final eight games, playing their best basketball down the stretch.Â
Head Coach Angel Elderkin
Opening Statement:
"I thought we played a really good basketball game for three quarters, other than our rebounding. Hats off Little Rock in terms of the way they defend and the way the rebound. Twenty-six second chance points by them, and they capitalized on 13 out of 15, which was really the biggest difference in the game. The fourth quarter, they turned up their defense, we got impatient and we didn't execute as well. I thought they made some really good adjustments to our actions. I am really proud of our team for what they were able to come here and do. We obviously know why we lost, so it wasn't a long talk in the locker room. We didn't box out, and we won't really now until we go look at the film why we were not in position. But it was just a great effort overall for the tournament."
Â
On the difference in the fourth quarter:
" I thought Little Rock out-guarded us, and then Collier went on that little run and she took over the game. She made some really tough pull-up jumpers and I thought she was exceptional for them during that stretch."
Â
Â
Conversely, was what going on in the first half
"I thought were able to mix up our defenses, man-zone, to try to keep them uncomfortable. We still went in at halftime giving up 11 second chance points, and we communicated that to our kids. If we don't give that, we are up. Offensively, we were a little bit more patient, and Ashley (Polacek) our point guard, did a little better job of controlling the tempo and coming off ball screens, using screens and so we executed better. We got into a little rhythm in the third quarter, but I thought the turnovers hurt us. Did we run out of gas? I hate to say that because our kids knew what was on the line and I think they gave everything they had."
