NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Fresh off a strong weekend, Appalachian State distance runner
Gable Dershem has been named Sun Belt Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
It marks the first Sun Belt weekly honor for Dershem, who was named Third Team All-Sun Belt during the indoor season last year.
This past weekend at the Darius Dixon Invitational, Dershem pulled away from the field to win the 5,000-meter run by over 19 seconds in a PR time of 14:59.66. His time bettered his previous PR by nearly four seconds.
In addition, Dershem's time is now the top time in the 5,000-meter run in the Sun Belt this season.
Dershem and the Mountaineers will compete at the Sun Belt Championships on Monday and Tuesday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
