Men's Basketball Closes Out Non-Conference Play at NC State on Sunday

RALEIGH, N.C. -- App State men's basketball will close out non-conference play on Sunday at NC State. Tip is set for 4 p.m. on ACC Network and the Appalachian Sports Network from IMG Learfield College.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the 14th meeting between the two schools, with NC State holding a 12-1 edge
  • The Wolfpack won the last meeting during the 2016-17 season in Raleigh by a 97-64 score
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State pushed its winning streak to four games with a 70-65 win at Troy on Dec. 21
  • Justin Forrest had a game-high 25 points, while adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Isaac Johnson added 15 points and eight rebounds in the win
  • In two games last week, Forrest averaged 28.5 points on 54.3 percent (19-of-35) shooting, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals. For his efforts he was named Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week, Sun Belt Player of the Week and Sun Belt Player of the Week by College Sports Madness
  • App State received a vote in the most recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll
  • The 8-4 start to the season for the Black and Gold is the best for the program since the 2006-07 season, when the Mountaineers began 9-3
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
  • NC State improved to 9-3 on the season with a 83-63 win over The Citadel on Dec. 22
  • Devon Daniels had 18 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Markell Johnson posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Off the bench, DJ Funderbunk had 14 points and C.J. Bryce and Jericole Hellems each had 13 points.
  • The Wolfpack are averaging 81.8 points, which sits second in the ACC and 20th in the nation
  • NC State also ranks 44th in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting 47.6 percent from the field
UP NEXT
App State will return to the High Country for three Sun Belt contests. The Mountaineers host Georgia State on Thursday at 7 p.m., Georgia Southern on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Louisiana on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. Season tickets and single game tickets for the 2019-20 season are on sale and can be purchased by calling the App State ticket office at 828-262-2079.
