TROY, Ala. -- Fresh off of a victory in its Sun Belt opener, App State men's basketball will look to improve to 2-0 in Sun Belt play on Saturday at Troy. Tip is set for 3 p.m. EST on ESPN+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
THE SERIES
- This will be the 13th meeting between the two schools, with App State leading 8-4
- The teams split the two meetings last season with each team winning on its home court
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- App State improved to 7-4 on the season with an 81-71 win at South Alabama in its Sun Belt opener on Thursday
- Justin Forrest tallied a season-high 32 points on a season-high 10 made field goals, four rebounds, a career-high tying six assists and a career-high tying four steals. Isaac Johnson added 16 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight and fourth double-double of the season
- App State has scored 81 or more points in three straight games and is averaging 84.0 points during that span. In addition, the Black and Gold own a +8.5 scoring margin, which ranks third in the Sun Belt
- The Mountaineers continue to lead the league in scoring defense, giving up 61.7 points
- The Mountaineers have posted at least seven wins in their first 11 games 34 times in program history and four times since the 1999-00 season, including this year. The last time App State started 7-4 or better during a season was 2009-10, when the Mountaineers also began 7-4
- The last time the Black and Gold started a season 8-4 or better was during the 2006-07 season, when App State started the season 9-3
SCOUTING THE TROJANS
- Troy topped Coastal Carolina 77-59 in its Sun Belt opener on Thursday
- Ty Gordon drained five three-pointers to finish with a game-high 17 points off the bench. Darian Adams finished with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Zay Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds
- The Trojans rank as the second best team in the Sun Belt in rebounding (39.3 rpg) and in assists (14.7 apg)
- Adams leads the team in scoring at 13.3 points, while Williams ranks second in scoring (12.3 ppg) and leads the team in shooting percentage (.518) and rebounding (6.2 rpg)
