MOBILE, Ala. -- App State men's basketball will begin Sun Belt play on Thursday evening at South Alabama. Tip is set for 8 p.m. EST on ESPN+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
THE SERIES
- This will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two schools
- The Jaguars won both meetings last season and have won seven straight in the series
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- App State improved to 6-4 on the season with a 81-59 win over Howard on Saturday
- Isaac Johnson tallied his third double-double of the season with a season-high 19 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high tying seven assists. O'Showen Williams added 14 points, Justin Forrest had 13 points and Adrian Delph had 10 points
- Williams has tallied double figures in scoring in four consecutive games and is averaging 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists during that span
- The Black and Gold are giving up a league leading 60.8 points and have held eight of its last nine opponents to 62 points or less
- The Mountaineers' six wins through their first 10 games is the best start for the program since the 2009-10 season, when the Black and Gold also started 6-4
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
- South Alabama improved to 6-4 on the season with a 89-79 win over Alabama A&M on Tuesday
- Josh Ajayi tallied a game-high 24 points on 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) shooting and five rebounds. Chad Lott added 17 points and KK Curry poured in 15 points off the bench
- Andre Fox leads the team in scoring at 16.1 points, with Ajayi right behind at 16.0 points. Lott is also averaging double figures in scoring at 14.0 points
- Lott and Ajayi rank first and second in the league in shooting percentage at 61.3 percent and 61.2 percent, respectively.
