Mountaineers Set to Tip 2019-20 Season Tuesday Evening at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Appalachian State men's basketball will officially tip the 2019-20 season and Dustin Kerns era on Tuesday evening at Michigan. The contest is set for 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • Appalachian State welcomes back seven players from last season's squad, including four starters
  • Justin Forrest was named Second Team Preseason All-Sun Belt and Isaac Johnson was tabbed as Third Team Preseason All-Sun Belt
  • Forrest posted career highs in scoring average (16.2 ppg), shooting percentage (.407), rebounding (3.3 rpg) and assists (74) last season. In 30 games (29 starts), he reached double figures in 24 contests, including two games of 32 points. He also had four or more assists in eight games, including a career-high six in two contests. He enters the 2019-20 season just 69 points shy of 1,000 for his career
  • Johnson established himself as one of the top rebounders in the Sun Belt last season, finishing second in the conference at a career-high clip of 8.6. He also averaged a career-best 10.0 points and shot a career-high 51.2 percent from the field. He reached double figures in scoring 16 times, rebounding 12 times and had a team-high eight double-doubles. Johnson enters the season 248 points shy of 1,000 for his career and 255 rebounds shy of 1,000 for his career and can become the third player in program history to score 1,000 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds
  • Also returning for App State is Adrian Delph and Hunter Seacat. Delph averaged 7.1 points last season, making 19 starts in 32 games. Seacat shot a team-best 55.9 percent from the field last season, while averaging 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds.
  • O'Showen Williams returns after seeing action in all 32 games last year, dishing out 57 assists and posting 22 steals. Michael Bibby is also back after shooting 48.3 percent on three-pointers. App State also returns James Lewis Jr., who sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
  • Michigan opens the 2019-20 campaign with a new face at the helm of the program in Juwan Howard
  • The Wolverines appeared in the receiving votes portion of the Associated Press Top 25 Poll (two points) and USA Today Coaches Poll (28 points)
  • Zavier Simpson was named Preseason All-Big Ten after posting 244 assists last season, which ranked as the second most in program single season history. Simpson was also named to the Bob Cousy Award preseason watch list, which is given to the nation's top point guard
  • Jon Teske was one of 20 players selected for the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is given to the nation's top center by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
UP NEXT
App State returns to the High Country for two home games. The Mountaineers host Ferrum in their home opener on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and then welcome East Carolina to the Holmes Center on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Both games will be on ESPN+.
