Mountaineers Conclude Homestand with Mercer

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State women's basketball concludes its three-game homestand against defending SoCon champions, Mercer, on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

 The first 250 fans will receive a free scratcher, ranging from free food from concessions to Nike Swag.  The grand prize will be the "golden ticket" and will include two tickets to Luke Combs. In addition,

About the Mountaineers

Last Time Out
The Apps fell to ETSU on Monday, 67-61. After trailing by as many as 18 in the third quarter, put together a 22-8 run over a 6:41 span to dwindle the deficit to just four, 61-57. However, ETSU scored six of the final 10 points in the final period to pull away. Pre Stanley scored all of her game-high 22 points, highlighted by pouring in 17 of App's fourh-quarter points to lead the comeback. Armani Hampton tied a season-high with 11 rebounds, giving the senior back-to-back double-figure rebounding performances for the first time in her career. 

Scoring Stanley
Stanley has scored at least 20 points in consecutive contests for the second time in her career (2017-18) and three times in the last four games. She is shooting a solid 51.5 percent from the floor
in the past two games since a 2-of-16 outing at then-No. 6 South Carolina. Going into Friday, she is second in the Sun Belt in scoring. 

What to Watch for
- App State committed a season-low 10 turnovers on Monday. Watch if the Black and Gold can protect the ball against a Mercer team that is ninth in steals per game and 31st in turnovers forced per game.
- Mercer is allowing 10 3-pointers over the past three games. See if the Mountaineers can get it going from beyond the arc.
- During the Bears' five-game skid, opponents are averaging 17.2 second-chance points. See if the Black and Gold can crash the glass for second-chance opportunities.
- Opponents are averaging 23.2 free throw attempts against Mercer this season. See if the Apps can get to the line. 

Scouting Mercer
- The Bears were picked to win the SoCon after a 25-8 season. Mercer is the third team (VCU, South Carolina) in the first six games that were picked to win their league. 
- Mercer is on a five-game skid after a narrow 61-60 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
- Jaron Dougherty led three players in double figures with 15 points. Shannon Titus led the way with 14 rebounds.
- The Bears have struggled on the road with a 0-3 mark, but two of the three opponents are power five programs in Alabama and Georgia.
- Dougherty leads the team in scoring at a clip of 13.8 points per game, while Shannon Titus' 11.8 points per game are second on the team.
- Dougherty also is pulling down a team-high 6.7 rpg.
- Jordan McLaughlin is dishing out a team-best 2.8 apg.
- Mercer is seventh in the country in steals and ninth in steals per game (13.8).
- The Bears are also turning teams over at a clip of 22.2, which is 31st in the nation. 

Series History
App State is 2-0 all-time against Mercer, while it's the first matchup taking place since 1988, where App captured an 88-65 victory. 

What's Next
Appalachian will play the next seven games on the road, beginning with Wofford next Wednesday.
