BOONE, N.C. -App State women's soccer snapped it's three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win against ULM Friday night at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers improve to 5-8-2 and 2-4-1 in the Sun Belt, while the Warhawks fall to 3-10-2 and 0-7 in Sun Belt play. Appalachian also maintains a 5-0-2 unbeaten record at home.
Appalachian came out strong with Kyndall Edwards rising high to score a header from the delivery of Kristin Brown. Brown doubled the lead less than seven minutes later with a free-kick from the left side of the penalty area in the upper-90, giving the senior goals in back-to-back games while it's the first time this season she has turned in a performance with at least one goal and one assist.Â
The offense stayed on the attack with 10 more shots in the final 31:30 of the first period, six of which were on target attempted by four different student-athletes. App went into the half with a commanding 2-0 lead.Â
App State tacked on one more on the board when Emma McGibany scored her first collegiate goal after Blair Anderes' shot came off the post, rebounded back to her and set up McGibany for the score.
Kerry Eagleston made the start between the posts for the Apps, seeing 73 minutes of action and allowing zero goals with one save, while Alisa Ostswald came in for the final 17 minutes to finish things off with one save. The defense did a stellar job of allowing ULM to get off any clean looks as the two shots on frame by ULM were a season-best for the Black and Gold.Â
The Apps posted a dominating 22-6 edge in shots and for the second time this season, tallied double-digit shots on goal with a season-high 11. Fourteen of the 22 players who attempted at least one shot with Mary Perkins and Hayley Boyles firing off three attempts.Â
Appalachian will look to end the home slate with an unblemished mark against Arkansas State on Sunday at 12 p.m. for Senior Day. App will honor nine members in Taylor Ray, Ava Dawson, Jessica Easley Kayce Ransone, Blair Anderes, Tristin Derrick, Kristin Brown, Maggie Hanusek and student assistant Heather Ostwalt.Â
