BOONE, N.C. - For the entire month of February, Appalachian State University women's basketball will participate in the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge.
Fans can pledge money for each free throw their team hits in the largest fundraising initiative hosted by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. To donate, fans can go to App State's Pledge it page by

Angel Elderkin said. "The Play4Kay Free Throw Challenge is an easy way to make a difference
in the fight against cancer."
Last season, the Mountaineers raised over $1,200 dollars during the challenge, which ranked in the top 15 in the country. Appalachian has done a stellar job in assisting the awareness of cancer. Over the past three seasons, App State has raised nearly $10,000. In last season's Play4Kay game, the annual silent auction raised $1685 while over $600 was raised from Play4Kay shirts and the chuck-a-duck promotion.
In 2016-17, Mountaineers raised over $5,000 in funds for cancer awareness and research through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and for the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge during the months of February and early March. The Sun Belt Conference partnered with Coaches vs. Cancer to launch the 2017 3-Point Challenge. App nailed 37 3-pointers during the drive, which amounted to a total of $3,239 or $87.53 per 3-pointer. The Black and Gold's proceeds from the 3-point contest were the highest among all women's programs.
This season, the Play4Kay game will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. against UT Arlington. The contest will feature a silent action, the second-annual chuck-a-duck contest at halftime and special pink App State women's basketball t-shirts.
