NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Appalachian State mid-distance runner
Ryan Hastings and the women's track and field team were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their performances in the classroom.
Hastings was named to the All-Academic Team for the outdoor season for the first time in his career. To be eligible in the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have compiled a 3.25 GPA and and participated in any round of the NCAA Championships (including preliminary round).
The Mountaineer women's track & field team was named as an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA. A team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better to be eligible.
Hastings qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 800-meter run for the second straight season. He earned All-Sun Belt honors with a second-place finish in the event in a season-best time of 1:49.22. The History/Social Studies Education major was also named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team.
This marks the seventh consecutive season the women's program has been named as an All-Academic Team. The Mountaineers posted a sixth place finish at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships and were fifth at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
