BOONE, N.C. — The offensive line from Appalachian State has been named to the Joe Moore Award Mid-Season Honor Roll.
This is the fourth year of the award that honors Moore, who is regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in college football history, and App State is one of only two Group of Five teams among the 14 honor roll selections.
With offensive tackles
Victor Johnson and
Chandler Greer, center
Noah Hannon and guards
Ryan Neuzil,
Baer Hunter and
Cole Garrison playing the majority of snaps along a line coached by
Shawn Clark, the Mountaineers currently rank No. 3 in the country at 6.49 yards per rush, No. 7 in the country at 264.8 rushing yards per game and tied for 13th in the country with only six sacks allowed. Their ball carries are averaging 4.68 yards before contact.
In each of the previous four seasons, App State has ranked in the top 25 in both rushing yards per game and fewest sacks allowed. It was a top-10 rushing team in two of those years and a top-four team in sacks allowed in three of those years.
"They are straining and play with great effort," the committee said. "Run off the ball. Everything is in sync. It is clear they have a physical mind set. Only loss to Happy Valley by 1 score is impressive."
The past winners of the Joe Moore Award were Alabama in 2015, Iowa in 2016 and Notre Dame in 2017.
