BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's soccer (7-7-1, 4-3 SBC) suffered a narrow 1-0 setback to South Alabama (7-8, 5-3 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
Appalachian controlled possession for majority of the game and held an 11-6 edge in shots.
The defense held USA to just six shot attempts, which is the lowest number of shots the Jaguars have attempted during conference play, while its three shots on goal tied a low in league action.
Sunday's difference was a South Alabama penalty score by Brenna McPartian in the 44th minute of the contest.
Emmily Cowie led the team with four shots, while
Ava Dawson had a pair of attempts, including a header following a perfect ball from
Jamie Palermo but went just left of the post late in the second period.
Jessica Peters had the team's lone shot on goal in the opening period.
Just before the Jaguars scored,
Amber Anderson also had a perfect opportunity to give App a 1-0 lead but went left of the net.
App State will look to get back on the winning track when it faces UL Monroe on the road on Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 pm (ET).
